Sarah Margaret Qualley was born in Kalispell, Montana, to actress and model Andie MacDowell and former model Paul Qualley. She has an older brother, Justin, and an older sister, actress and singer Rainey Qualley. Through her mother, Margaret has Scottish ancestry. The family lived on a ranch in Missoula, Montana, before moving to the Biltmore Forest neighborhood of Asheville, North Carolina, when Margaret was four. Her parents separated when she was five, and she spent equal time with each of them. For years, her parents lived only 3 miles apart.
