Early Life

Slay hails from Brunswick, Georgia, where he attended Brunswick High School. There, he played as both a running back and defensive back. In his senior year, Slay earned All-State honors at defensive back from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and was select for the Georgia North-South All-Star Game. In his sophomore season, Slay rushed for 1,127 yards on 142 attempts and scored 13 touchdowns. Additionally, he excelled in track and field, clocking a 10.92-second time in the 100 meters and 22.0 seconds in the 200 meters.

College Career

Slay initially attended Itawamba Community College before transferring to Mississippi State University. At Itawamba, Slay had an impressive freshman year, earning First-team Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State honors and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 honors.
