His father, Tom, was the head coach at Prosser High School from 1986 to 2008, where he led the team to 21 league titles and four state championships. Kellen and his younger brother Kirby, who also played at Boise State as a wide receiver, would regularly attend their father’s football practices after school. As Kellen’s father recalled in a 2011 interview, “He’d always have a little notepad with him. He was always drawing plays.” During his final two years of high school, Kellen’s father allowed him to call his own plays during games.

According to his mother, Kellen grew quickly but stopped growing around his sophomore year, reaching a height of 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m), which was close to his adult height. Despite his lack of height, Kellen excelled at Prosser High, earning the Gatorade Player of the Year award for the state of Washington. He was a three-time letterman in both football and basketball and received numerous honors, including being named an All-American.

He remained in that position until January 2023, when the Cowboys and Moore mutually agreed to part ways following a disappointing playoff performance.

Shortly after, Moore was hired as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers on January 30, 2023. In this new role, he will work alongside third-year head coach Brandon Staley to help develop the Chargers’ young quarterbacks, including star QB Justin Herbert.
